Day 6 - Illinois Beach State Park

Today we took advantage of the warmer weather (finally!) and we headed to Illinois Beach State Park near Zion. Chris was really looking forward to coming back here. It’s been 11 years since we were there.

Kate was so excited when we arrived and could hardly wait to let go of Chris’s hand so she could start playing. As soon as we set up our chairs, we let her explore the beach. Chris started playing in the sand and Kate dove in! Literally!
To say that she loved the beach is really an understatement! She had a ball! She was rubbing it on her arms, did a face plant into it so it was on her face and even bent half over and rubbed her head in the sand! Yes, by the end she was literally covered from head to toe and in places that sand shouldn’t be. We found sand in her ear a day later!
Kate was fascinated by how the sand moved when she touched it.
Isn't this how you destroy your sand castle?

Kate wasn’t quite as enamored with the lake, but I think that was due to its temperature. I can’t really blame her. My toes froze! She did like looking at the water and the waves splashing up on the shore.

Beach Baby
She certainly wore herself out and fell asleep before we left the park.
